AnMed Health Oncology and Hematology Specialists welcomes Dr. Jeffrey S. DeLo.

Dr. DeLo earned his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He joins AnMed Health after being a full partner in the Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute. He also served as associate professor at the University of Oklahoma and served as chief medical director for Grace Hospice in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Seventeen patients evacuated from Beaufort Memorial Hospital were transferred in a caravan of ambulances to AnMed Health on Friday morning, arriving around 9 a.m. Nine members of the Beaufort Memorial Hospital staff came with them.

Statement on Townville shooting victims - Wednesday, September 28, 2016

EMS brought two victims of the Townville school shooting today to AnMed Health. A student and a teacher were treated in the Emergency Department and both were released late in the afternoon. AnMed Health LifeFlight transported a third patient to GHS.

Bus crash patients treated at AnMed Health - Monday, September 26, 2016

Thirteen patients from a bus crash on Interstate 85 were transported to AnMed Health late Monday morning. Three were in critical condition.

The Hospital Incident Command System was partially activated to respond to the high volume of incoming patients. By moving patients who already were in the hospital to other treatment areas, the AnMed Health staff accommodated all of the incoming patients.

Specific information about the patients is not available at this time.

Program encourages parents to cultivate safe drivers - Monday, August 8, 2016

Lacey Councill and Nichole Boseman believe they've found the key — seven keys, actually — to making better, safer teen drivers. The focus is on making good decisions when behind the wheel of a car.

Councill is coordinator and health educator of the Doclink program at AnMed Health. Boseman is principal of Wren High School, which has seen more than its share of tragic results from car crashes.

Camp Asthmania to provide outdoor, asthma-friendly activities for children - Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Camp Asthmania will provide a traditional summertime experience for a group of kids who usually stay home when their friends head off to camp.

AnMed Health designed Camp Asthmania to provide the fun and excitement that summer camps traditionally provide. However, the camp combines these elements with a safe and educational environment; camp counselors help children recognize and then control their asthma symptoms as they arise.

Jerry Parrish retires as AnMed Health financial chief

AnMed Health says farewell this month to one of its longest-serving employees and a key member of the executive team.

Jerry A. Parrish has served AnMed Health since 1977. He joined the AnMed Health staff as Manager of Accounting in 1977 and later was elevated to Controller before his promotion in 1984 to Vice President of Financial Services. He also served as president of the AnMed Federal Credit Union.

The South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA), working with AnMed Health and other health systems in the state, has a new website to help consumers better understand hospital pricing.

Called South Carolina PricePoint, the site allows members of the public to access information about services and charges at hospitals throughout the state. Although the site lists “chargemaster” prices for hospitals, it does not show the price most patients actually pay.

AnMed Health begins construction of new OR

A construction project gets underway late this month that will change the face of AnMed Health's main building as well as the capabilities of its operating rooms.
The $8.2 million addition will add a three-story structure to the corner of the Medical Center closest to the visitor lobby. AnMed Health retains Star status for worker safety

Once again AnMed Health Medical Center has been confirmed as the only hospital in South Carolina to qualify for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status.

The Medical Center first earned this achievement in 2005, when it became only the eighth VPP hospital in the nation. This week a six-person survey team from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration completed its three-day triennial survey in a day and a half. read more ...

AnMed Health earns Chest Pain Center designation

AnMed Health Medical Center has been recognized as an accredited “Chest Pain Center with PCI” by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC).

 

PCI is percutaneous coronary intervention, commonly known as angioplasty, in which a “balloon” is used to open up blockages that are preventing blood flow to the heart. The length of time it takes someone suffering a heart attack to receive PCI is key to saving a heart, and a key measurement in determining whether a medical center meets the tough standards of Chest Pain Center accreditation. read more ...

AnMed Health finalized an agreement with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston last Friday to become its first branch campus. Through the partnership, selected third- and fourth-year MUSC students will complete their final two years of education at AnMed Health. Six third-year students will arrive on campus next fall. By 2017, a total of 24 medical students will train in Anderson each year – 12 in each class. read more ...

CareConnect opens locations in Anderson and Clemson
AnMed Health has introduced a new urgent care and after-hours service designed to provide convenient and affordable care for unexpected minor illness and injury. CareConnect opened today with locations at 600 N. Fant Street in Anderson and at AnMed Health-Clemson, located at 885 Tiger Boulevard/U.S. Highway 123 in Clemson. AnMed Health Women’s and Children’s Hospital has been named the Upstate’s first Baby-Friendly Hospital, designated by Baby-Friendly USA, a national version of an initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF – the United Nations Children’s Fund – to promote breastfeeding for new moms and their babies.

The Baby-Friendly Hospital initiative was created to foster maternity care practices that promote and support breastfeeding. It endorses “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding,” a bundle of science-based practices established as a global criteria to improving breastfeeding rates. Teddy bears and other stuffed animals are invited to receive a free check-up Saturday, May 17 at the 8th annual AnMed Health Teddy Bear Clinic. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon outside AnMed Health Women’s and Children’s Hospital at 2000 E. Greenville St. in Anderson.
The Teddy Bear Clinic familiarizes children with hospital personnel and medical equipment by treating stuffed animals for common injuries and ailments. Upon arrival, each stuffed animal receives a hospital identification band. Kids then take their stuffed animals through a series of screenings and procedures. This includes measuring their weight, height and blood pressure as well as getting an x-ray. read more ...

The program will consist of three separate two-week sessions: June 9-20; June 30-July 11; and July 21-Aug. 1. Students will participate in one session and must be willing to volunteer Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the entire two-week period. Students must be at least 15 years old to participate.

U.S. News & World Report has released its annual Best Hospitals rankings. This year’s Best Hospitals, the 24th annual edition, showcases more than 720 of the nation’s roughly 5,000 hospitals. Fewer than 150 are nationally ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialties. The rest of the recognized hospitals met a standard of performance nearly as demanding in one or more specialties.

AnMed Health ranked fifth out of 90 hospitals in South Carolina and was recognized among the Best Hospitals in the Upstate. AnMed Health was also listed as high-performing in cancer, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology.

During sudden cardiac arrest, the electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic or both, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating. According to the American Heart Association, sudden cardiac arrest takes as many as 460,000 lives each year.
