• Stay up to date on your screenings and vaccinations with guidance from your gynecologist.

    Screenings

Pap smears, mammograms, bone density tests and other screenings check for signs of health problems before you experience symptoms. Early detection improves long-term outcomes of illnesses.

Your need for screenings evolves based on changes in your medical history, changes in your family’s health and updates to nationwide screening guidelines. Count on your gynecologist for the personalized testing recommendations you need to protect your health.

    Vaccinations

Ask your gynecologist what vaccines you or your child needs based on the latest immunization guidelines. Your doctor can provide almost any vaccine, including the HPV vaccine, which prevents cancer-causing infections and precancers in both women and men.

  • If you have heavy, painful periods (menorrhagia), your doctor may help you explore options such as:

    • Tranexamic acid medication – Limits bleeding without the use of hormones
    • Hormonal control – Lightens your periods with medications or an IUD (a long-term contraceptive device placed in your uterus)
    • Endometrial ablation – Uses a minimally invasive surgical procedure to destroy uterine lining and make your monthly periods lighter
    • Iron infusion – Uses an IV (intravenous line) to replace iron lost due to heavy bleeding
    • Hysterectomy – Removes the uterus, sometimes with the use of a surgical robot that makes the procedure less invasive

  • We’ll help you feel safe and comfortable sharing your concerns about your sexual relationships and health. Whether you need medical care, counseling or both, you can expect affirming, nonjudgmental support. Our gynecologists provide:

    • Education on topics such as female anatomy, libido and the connection between mental and sexual health
    • Birth control counseling, prescriptions for contraception, and placement of Nexplanon (arm implant), hormonal IUDs and nonhormonal IUDs
    • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing and treatment
    • Tubal ligation, a surgical procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy

  • If you have difficulty getting pregnant, your gynecologist may order:

    • Hormone testing – Examines the level of fertility-related hormones in your blood
    • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) – Uses X-ray imaging and a dye injection to look for blockages in your fallopian tubes
    • Ovulation induction – Uses hormonal medications or injections to make your body release an egg

In some cases, your doctor will refer you to a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility specialist). Once you get pregnant, your AnMed OB/GYN will resume your care and help make sure you safely deliver a healthy baby.

  • The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support your bowels and bladder. Childbirth and aging can weaken or injure these muscles, sometimes causing symptoms such as:

    • Feeling of pressure or fullness in your pelvic area or lower abdomen
    • Sense that something is slipping down into your vagina
    • Difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels
    • Pain during sex
    • Low-back pain

    Pelvic Floor Treatments

Depending on your symptoms, your gynecologist may recommend:

    • Physical therapy with a specialist in pelvic floor care
    • Kegels and other exercises to strengthen pelvic muscles
    • Pessary (soft device placed in the vagina) to support your bladder, uterus or rectum and keep pelvic organs in place
    • Surgery to tighten pelvic tissue and return a prolapsed (slipped) bladder or rectum to its normal position

  • Ask your gynecologist about lifestyle changes and medical treatments that can ease the symptoms of menopause. You may benefit from hormone replacement therapy (HRT) if you meet either of these criteria:

    • You have hot flashes and night sweats due to falling estrogen levels
    • You have osteoporosis (bone weakening) that doesn’t improve with other treatments

Your options for HRT may include pills, creams, skin patches, injections and other products. We’ll help you make the best choice based on your symptoms, insurance coverage and preferences.
