TMS Therapy

Depression affects at least 14 million American adults each year. It can affect anyone, of any racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic category. People suffering from depression may feel sad, hopeless, anxious, or lose interest in once-pleasurable activities. There are several forms of depression, but the good news is that most people can get better with the right treatment. AnMed Health TMS Center of the Upstate is the first facility in the Upstate to offer NeuroStar TMS Therapy for the treatment of adults with major depressive disorder.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or TMS, is a new non-drug therapy approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). TMS is clinically proven to improve depression symptoms in adults who have not responded well to medication. TMS therapy uses magnetic waves to stimulate the brain. It relieves depression and allows patients to avoid the unwanted side effects commonly associated with antidepressants. A study shows approximately half of patients treated with TMS experience significant improvement in their depression symptoms. About one third of patients experienced complete symptom relief at the end of six weeks.

Treatment is available by prescription only and is delivered under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

AnMed Health TMS Center of the Upstate is in Suite 1200 of the Oglesby Center on the AnMed Health North Campus. Call (864) 512-4935 to schedule a tour or to speak with our TMS coordinator and find out if TMS therapy is right for you.
