(Anderson, S.C. – May 6, 2021) – "This accomplishment is just a representation of the excellent care that every stroke patient receives when they come through our doors," said AnMed Heath Stroke Center Coordinator Grayson Smith.
More than 800,000 strokes happen each year in the United States. A Primary Stroke Center Certification recognizes that AnMed meets the standards to support better outcomes for stroke care. Standards include a dedicated stroke-focused program that is staffed by qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care.
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. and is a major cause of serious disability for adults. The signs of a stroke include weakness in the face, arm or leg, difficulty speaking, vision loss, dizziness and a brief loss of consciousness. Certain factors can increase the risk of having a stroke, like smoking and drinking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and bad eating habits.
